The Role of the Council of Europe in Challenging Times

25 November 2019

In 2019, the Council of Europe celebrates its 70th anniversary. This provides a great opportunity to not only reflect on its achievements in upholding democratic values, the rule of law, and human rights, but also to address the challenges that the Council of Europe is currently facing and that it will likely be confronted with in the future.

The Ministry for Federal and European Affairs of Lower Saxony will hold this event together with Leuphana University and the European Centre for Advanced Studies to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe.

For the opening ceremony on the first day, we had the honour to welcome Lower Saxony’s State Secretary for Science and Culture, Sabine Johannsen, as well the President of the University of Glasgow, Sir Anton Muscatelli, and Leuphana University President Sascha Spoun.

On the second day, researchers as well as students from both univerities got together to discuss future collaboration opportunities.
