Sabine Johannsen

Dr. Sabine Johannsen is State Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony. The Ministry supervises the state-approved universities and universities of applied science and fosters innovation, research and higher education in Lower Saxony. Prior to this, Ms Johannsen was a member of the NBank’s Management Board, which is the development bank for Lower Saxony, supporting the state in fulfilling its duties with regard to structural and economic policies. Ms Johannsen’s focus is on European cooperation and the advancement of innovation

David Duncan

David Duncan is the University of Glasgow’s Chief Operating Officer and University Secretary. Prior to this, David was Registrar and Secretary at the University of York, a post he held for 8 years. Before then he was Secretary of the University of Dundee from 2001-8. David is a graduate of the University of Aberdeen and holds a Masters degree and a PhD in history from Queen’s University, Canada.

Rachel Sandison

Rachel Sandison is Vice Principal, External Relations at the University of Glasgow. Rachel’s responsibilities include strategic leadership for domestic and international student recruitment; international affairs and partnership development; marketing, brand and reputation; undergraduate and postgraduate admissions; fundraising & alumni relations; and widening participation. Rachel is a chartered marketer and a CASE Global Trustee. She is a member of the Universities Scotland International Committee and sits on anumber of sector advisory boards. She is the University of Glasgow’s senior leader for the Universitas 21 network and The Guild of European Research
Intensive Universities.

Burkhardt Funk

Burkhardt Funk is professor for information systems at Leuphana University. His research interests encompass building statistical models and decision support systems based on methods from machine learning and Bayesian statistics in a variety of application contexts such as E-Health and E-Commerce. Burkhardt has been one of the driving forces behind the Master program in Data Science at Leuphana and was a visiting scholar at Stanford University and the University of Virginia at Charlottesville. Besides his academic career he has a wealth of practical experience. As a senior consultant with McKinsey & Company he was engaged in Technology and E-Commerce projects. Bridging the gap between research and entrepreneurial activities is an important driver of his work.
