It is with great pleasure that we announce the second edition of the Lower Saxony – Scotland Joint Forum, taking place on Monday, 22 November 2021 and Tuesday, 23 November 2021 as an online conference.

During the first day of the Joint Forum, we will discuss the topic of “Partnerships with Universities: Collaborative Research and Positive Impacts for Society” in an interesting panel composed of renown experts. Nowadays, it is all the more important to create an environment of knowledge exchange between academia and industry and understand policy and practice in ways that serve society.

The second day is devoted to interested and motivated academics, staff and students, who will host their own workshop on any topic they deem relevant, presenting research as well collaboration ideas on ongoing as well as future joint projects between higher education institutions in Lower Saxony and Scotland.

Next to this, there will be plenty of opportunity to network, engage in discussions and find new partners.

The European Centre for Advanced Studies (ECAS) in cooperation with Leuphana University Lüneburg and the University of Glasgow, cordially invites you to the second Lower Saxony – Scotland Joint Forum.

If you cannot participate in the Zoom Webinar on Monday, 22 November, you will find the livestream of the panel discussions here:

Panel Discussion: Partnerships with Universities: Collaborative Research and Positive Impacts for Society

1:45 pm GMT / 2:45 pm CET

The corona pandemic has taken over the life of universities in Lower Saxony and Scotland for a considerable amount of time to adapt to these new and challenging circumstances and ensure the continued sharing of knowledge with students while at the same time generating new knowledge. It is exactly this transfer of knowledge which is at the core of academia.

The sharing or transfer of knowledge does not only happen within universities, but similarly outside of universities through the establishment of partnerships with different stakeholders and in particular industrial partners. It is these forms of collaborative engagements which drive initiatives such as the Green Deal of the European Union or more generally green technology, the blue economy as well as the creative economy.

Therefore, this panel shall focus on these collaborative partnerships and how they contribute to creating a greener, better and fairer society in particular through the joint creation and exchange of knowledge on a multidisciplinary and multistakeholder level. Thus, it shall be explored what role universities play in the creation of knowledge to the benefit of society and the impact research
has in driving policy, this is e.g. the case in the creative economy or more so the creative and cultural sectors where knowledge exchange is contributing to positive shifts of attitudes and practices towards a more economic, socially and environmentally sustainable future both at the individual and the societal level. Moreover, it is similarly important to look at existing relationships as well as emerging partnerships between industry and academia and how both may benefit from each other, e.g. by creating a truly blue economy or with regard to green technology.

Conclusively, it is these common interests as well as collaborations for the common good which require the transfer of knowledge beyond universities in order to generate knowledge to the benefit of academia, industry and ultimately, society at large.
