The third edition of the Lower Saxony – Scotland Joint Forum took place on 21 and 22 November 2022. For the first time, the event was hosted in a hybrid format – allowing for an in-person experience at the University of Glasgow as well as online for all other participants.

Over 150 members from higher education institutions in Lower Saxony and Scotland took part in the diverse programme spread over two days. This is outstanding, since for the first time, the event has focused on a rather topical discussion on “Renewable Energies and Sustainability” instead of a general exchange on subjects common to higher education institutions in both regions. A respective white paper produced by the participating academics will be published shortly and shall serve as a foundation for the development of a strategic energy partnership between Lower Saxony and Scotland. The panel discussion maybe rewatched via ECAS YouTube channel.

During the second day of the Joint Forum, participants took part in a multitude of different workshops on ongoing research projects as well as joint study programmes between both regions. They were provided with in-depth insights into literary Gothic traditions in Germany and Scotland, new laws and regulations for the internet of things, new developments in maritime transportation to foster decarbonisation as well as new approaches towards quantum information. Furthermore, two joint degrees offered together by a Lower Saxonian and a Scottish university were presented. The “LL.M. “Information Technology Law (IT Law) and Intellectual Property Law (IP Law)” by Leibniz University of Hannover and the University of Strathclyde is a great opportunity for Bachelor graduates in Law to get a cross-national education in important fields of Technology and Intellectual Property.

ECAS is looking forward to the next edition of the Joint Forum in November 2023, respective information will be published in Spring 2023.
