Professor Dr Joachim Schachtner serves as State Secretary for Science and Culture of Lower Saxony, Germany. In this role, he is responsible for higher education, research, innovation, and cultural affairs, and is a strong supporter of international cooperation in science and education. Prior to joining the Lower Saxony state government in 2022, he served as President of Clausthal University of Technology and as Chair of the Lower Saxony State Rectors’ Conference. A biologist by training, he studied at the University of Regensburg, completed his doctorate at the Technical University of Munich and his habilitation in zoology and animal physiology at Philipps University Marburg. Throughout his academic and leadership career, he has been committed to advancing research excellence, knowledge transfer, and international collaboration in higher education.
