Jannik Ruwisch

Dr. Jannik Ruwisch, MD, is a PRACTIS-Clinician Scientist of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL) in residency at Hannover Medical School (MHH) and a member of the program committee of the DFG-funded Clinician Scientist Program PRACTIS. He studied medicine at MHH, supported by the German National Academic Foundation, and completed his doctoral thesis on cholesterol-related pulmonary remodeling in aging SP-C deficient mice with summa cum laude, receiving the Dissertation Award of the German Lung Foundation. After research stays in Burlington (VT) and Syracuse (NY, USA), he joined the Department of Pneumology at MHH, where he focuses on interstitial lung diseases in the translational fibrosis research group of Prof. Jonas Schupp. In his PRACTIS project, Dr. Ruwisch investigates comparative pathomechanisms of fibrosing lung diseases by integrating ultrastructural, cellular, and spatial transcriptomic data to identify novel therapeutic targets. Alongside his clinical training, he also pursued a degree in Biomedical Data Science at MHH, reflecting his strong interest in integrating computational approaches into translational medicine. As spokesperson of the Clinician Scientists at MHH, he has represented the program to the German Research Foundation (DFG) and co-organized the National Clinician Scientist Symposium 2023. Dr. Ruwisch exemplifies the next generation of true clinician scientists, bridging patient care, research, and data-driven innovation.
