Cathy Dwyer

Academic Position: Cathy Dwyer is Professor of Animal Behaviour and Welfare at SRUC where she teaches animal welfare to students in veterinary medicine, veterinary nursing, veterinary bioscience and animal welfare. In her research, she focuses on understanding behavioural relationships between animals, particularly mothers and their offspring, behavioural development, welfare assessment and developing solutions to welfare problems. She is also involved in capacity building work in animal welfare with partner university and veterinary colleges in Asia, particularly in China and India. Cathy also chairs the Scottish Animal Welfare Commission which provides independent scientific advice on animal welfare matters to the Scottish Government.
