With profound sadness, the members of ECAS mourn the passing of Prof. Dr. Jörg Philipp Terhechte, our Academic Director, in the early hours of 22 November 2024.
Professor Terhechte was the visionary mind behind ECAS, playing an instrumental role in its creation and development. It was his leadership and dedication that secured the collaboration between the University of Glasgow and Leuphana University Lüneburg, establishing ECAS as an academic bridge between Lower Saxony and Scotland.
A passionate advocate for international collaboration, Professor Terhechte devised pioneering exchange formats such as the Joint Forum and the Tandem Fellowship Programme, which continue to foster meaningful connections across disciplines, institutions, and borders. His ability to bring together individuals from all areas of science, politics, business, and society was unmatched, as was his commitment to building new and expanding existing links even in challenging times like Brexit.
His legacy is one of inspiration, innovation, and unity. Without his tireless efforts, ECAS would not exist as it does today. For this, and so much more, we are deeply grateful.
Our thoughts are with his wife, their three children, and all who knew and loved him. We are committed to honouring his memory and continuing the work he so passionately began.
Professor Terhechte will forever be remembered as the founder of ECAS and a beacon of international collaboration.
